Young Kestrel with Magpie
Falco tinnunculus
Hanbury, Worcs, 20th Oct 2012
Canon 500D, EF 400mm F/5.6L, 1/640 at 5.6, ISO 800
It may be 'the region's commonest raptor', but this month was the first time I had seen and photographed a Kestrel relatively close-by. This one appears to be a juvenile, and we had heard its calls for several months previously. It landed on telegraph wires and then this tree in the meadow beyond our garden; though it was easily scared off from both perches by a carrion crow and then by this magpie.
