Rabbit at Upton Warren
Oryctolagus cuniculus
nr. Wychbold, Worcs, 3rd Nov 2012
Canon 500D, EF 400L f/5.6, 1/320 at f/6.3, ISO 1600
It took me until this Saturday to get round to visiting the wetlands reserve at Upton Warren, only a short drive from my home. I can't believe I had left it so long to visit what should become a major part of my 'local patch' - two sets of wetland habitat. At the shallow pool (the 'flashes'), which is home to wading birds, we managed to see a marsh harrier, mobbed at one point by a carrion crow. The other, deeper pool (Moors pool) is home to cormorants and water rail (both seen on Saturday), but even more excitingly, to kingfishers and osprey. If that isn't an incentive to return, and return frequently, I don't know what is!
For this weekend, it was the reserve's mammals which proved to be my best pictures: a hungry rabbit and an acrobatic squirrel. More pictures in Wild Mammals.
