White Faced Whistling Duck
Dendrocygna viguata
Slimbridge, Glos, 20th Aug 2012
Canon 500D, EF 400mm f/5.6L, 1/1000 at 5.6, ISO 640
I have only ever seen these birds at Slimbridge, and their distinctive call means they are heard well before they are seen - a rather loud, and very endearing, "wee-wee-woo" from the waterside, where they tend to flock together. The species is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and S. America.
